So you’ve decided to start your fitness journey – that’s great!

If your anything like me, you might not have the ability to go workout at the gym. You are stuck at home for your workouts but don’t worry – just because you don’t have a gym doesn’t mean you can’t get great results.

As you may or may not know I lost roughly 35 lbs after I had my son and then another 35 lbs after that. I never went to the gym. I used the products below combined with healthy eating to lose a total of 70 lbs in 1 year.

Insanity by Shaun T.

This was by far one of the best workout programs I’ve ever used. It pushes you to give all that you’ve got. If you put in the time (most of the workouts are only 60 minutes or less) then you will see results, be it on the scale or in the mirror.

As soon as I was cleared by my OBGYN after giving birth to start working out again, I ordered this program. Along with a healthy diet, the lbs started coming off.

I only did this program for about 3 months before I decided it was time to move on to something else. But it was a great fat-burner and definitely got me started on the right track!

C25K App

Let me tell you I love this app and best of all – it’s free! You just go into the app store and download it.

The app is a Couch to 5K running program. I know there are a lot of apps like this out there but this one is my favorite because I don’t have to look at my watch or phone at all while I’m using it.

All you do is open the app, hit start, and put your phone away. It tells you how long to warm-up (walk), when to run, when to walk, when to cool down, and when you’re done.

Guys I’ve started and stopped this program a few times due to surgery and illness but it is a great tool and really works.

If you’re wanting to get back into or start running, you have to try this!

Jogging Stroller

If you’re going to run or walk with your baby or kids – I recommend getting a stroller. And a good jogging stroller at that.

These are safer for the children and safer for you. They often come with a locking front wheel to keep you going straight, a 5-point harness, and a tether strap you can attach to your wrist preventing the stroller from getting away from you.

This is the one I personally use but here is a combination jogging stroller (car seat & base included) and a double jogging stroller, for those of you with more than one child.

If you have older kids – have them hop on their bike or scooter and let them go with you. It’s always great to exercise as a family!

Exercise Mat

All of those push-ups, sit-ups, and planks are going to take a toll on your knees, elbows and hands. I highly suggest getting some sort of exercise mat like this one to help prevent scratches, sores, and being uncomfortable.

In additions, these mats help prevent you from slipping if you’re doing Pilates or active ab workouts. They will save you a lot of pain – promise!

Exercise Ball

I don’t know if you know this but exercise balls have more purpose than just doing crunches! You can use this for push-ups, planks, wall squats, and the list goes on and on.

Also – they make great office chairs helping with posture and core stability.

Lastly, if you’re pregnant (or planning to be) they can help prepare you for labor by opening your hips and even help labor along! Isn’t that great! It’s an all in one tool.

This is the exercise ball I got to help with labor. My husband uses it too for his workouts. Once I had the baby I used it for workouts too as well as an extra chair around the house! Our exercise ball has gotten much use!

5 lbs Dumbbells

I know what you’re probably thinking – that’s not very much weight. My response, you don’t need that much. I’ve been lifting for over a year and often stick with these 5 lbs ones.

If they seem to be too light I often increase my repetitions while slowing down the movement as a whole to get a good stretch and contraction in that muscle group. While eventually I’m sure I’ll move up, starting out these are great to have in your arsenal of equipment.

Waist Trainer

This one is only really necessary if your looking to pull in that mom pooch area and loose some water weight around the midsection. I used this one immediately following the birth of my son and it has helped TREMENDOUSLY in pulling my waste back into where it once was.

Now I use it as back support when doing weighted squats to help prevent injury. Be wear – this thing can get gross quick so be sure to wash it once you start sweating in it!
